Wings to Soar: The Inspiring Journey of Krithika

DSW proudly celebrates the success of Krithika, our first student at Guruvidhyasham special ed school.
Krithika's success powerfully illustrates the impact of unwavering love, boundless patience, protection, compassion, and a deep understanding of her unique abilities both at home and school.
Krithika has completed her basic education and is currently working at a restaurant in the United States. She has overcome her limitations and discovered her strengths. In a message of appreciation to DSW, her father reflects on her first day at Guruvidhyashram School. She faced learning disabilities and physical challenges, which caused her to miss many milestones. Saranya Ma'am dedicated her time and attention to nurturing Krithika's abilities for success.
Krithika's story inspires many in the school and beyond to find their wings and soar higher. As a society, what matters most is that we encourage them to never stop trying and never give up.

Creating sustainable income opportunities

Launching insurance consultancy services in collaboration with Tata AIA

An insurance agent can work from home and manage their schedule to meet clients. This flexibility provides a viable livelihood opportunity for parents caring for a special needs child. Tata AIA will work with DSW to enroll and train qualified parents to get certified as insurance agents.
An individual agent is one who has undergone requisite training, passed an examination and been duly licensed by IRDA to sell and service insurance polices. Throughout this cycle Tata AIA will support, monitor and share skills with these registered individuals. The primary objective of this partnership is to strengthen financial security for  special children and their families through innovative livelihood solutions.

Launching the Life-saving Skills Training Program

Designed specifically for the Staff and parents caring for a differently-abled child.

Medical emergencies occur frequently, yet few people have the life-saving skills and training to recognize and respond to these situations. Delivering care and services to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities requires a specialized skillset leading to an added layer of complexity.
Equipping caregivers with the necessary skills to deliver these interventions to children with special needs is the mission of the DSW Trust. A pilot training program was launched in November at the main branch of the school. Recognizing the potential benefit in delivering this program across special education schools in the Chengalpet district, DSW secured a formal go ahead from the DDAWO. With the support of the collaborating organizations, the goal is to deliver 31 training and medical camps in 31 days at various institutions.

Marching Forward from Surviving to Thriving

DSW Trust is on a mission to infuse confidence in women and children through skill development workshops and sustainable livelihood programs.

Through collaboration efforts, the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board uses the local expertise of  DSW trust to direct support to the most vulnerable. DSW Trust plays a key role in bridging the social welfare policy and action gap. These efforts will pave the way for locally led sustainable initiatives to increase financial inclusion from the bottom up.

Born out of this goal is the Terracotta jewelry making workshop for aspiring artisans, conducted at Guru Vidhyashram school's Murugamangalam branch. It is the first of the trailblazer series, and we can expect to see many more in the coming days.

Beyond the moral imperative to promote inclusion for all, we cannot ignore the cost of social exclusion in today's world. Leave no one behind.

Empowering our youth

DSW Trust is teaming up with the Tamil Nadu Govt. as preferred partner in rolling out Enakkul Naan.

The welfare program, Enakkul Naan launched recently by Chengalpet District Collector S. Arunraj at the District Collectorate is fast gaining a lot of attention.
The initiative seeks to effectively address a wide range of concerns that students may encounter during their academic journey. It offers both male and female students a platform to voice their grievances and seek solutions for a variety of issues affecting them.
DSW Trust takes the initiative to visit schools and conduct special awareness camps on cyberbullying, Teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and other concerns in over 200 educational institutions across the Chengalpattu district.

Destination Dakshinachitra

A field trip that made children intellectually curious and greatly interested in art and culture.

DSW recently organized a field trip to Dakshinachitra for special needs children and their parents, creating an unforgettable experience. For many, it was their first time experiencing the world outside of their comfort zones. We at DSW understand the unique challenges families with special needs children face when navigating public places. We created a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, allowing them to explore the world beyond their daily routines.
